
The August 19, 2020 meeting was held via zoom. Still meeting in this manner because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Janet Knapp, President, started the business meeting at 6:30. She welcomed Julie Pekarske who will be doing a critique of submitted artwork. 19 WCAL members were in attendance plus Julie.
Membership: Carol reported the current membership count. She is working on next month’s program.
Treasurer: John reported the activity and balances of accounts. The July Treasurer’s Report was emailed to the board members.
Secretary: Jean reports that the July minutes are posted on the member webpage. She gave a reminder of zoom functions mute, chat, and how the critique will flow.
Courthouse Show: Meena has received two applications as of 8-19. Please email photos of your work to Meena as well. The judge will be a Milwaukee based artist. He is also a high school art teacher. Meena drafted the contract with some additional COVID-19 language and sent to Janet & Margaret for review. She emailed membership about emailing images of their artwork. Asked Jan (WRAP coordinator) for advice & directions regarding taking quality photos of art. Jan had worked with a professional photographer for the WRAP. She spoke of her experiences with those images. Jan will help Meena make a nice gallery for the Courthouse Show.
WRAP Show: WRAP Director contacted Jan about the conference. It will be online this year rather than in Wausau. September 11th is the deadline to signup (pay online) Website is go.wisc.edu/WRAPConference. Choose your favorites from 8 different workshops which cost $10 each. The guest speaker will be a native American Indian artist. Her presentation cost $20. WRAP Coordinators will be able attend the conference for free.
Member Show: Renee reports nothing new or different.
Publicity/Facebook: Nancy reports that a few people are putting their artwork on Facebook.
Webpage: Lennis posted the most up-to-date member list. She will post next meeting date and challenge.
Exhibits: Janet acknowledges Vince and how we will miss him. Renee has the exhibits binder.
President:
Janet report our Masters Show is on-hold until the Courthouse gallery
can be used.
Challenge: 5 members showed and explained their minimalist artwork for
the August challenge. The September Challenge: members can share a recommended
artbook or best art advice they’ve received.
Thank-You Project: received many beautiful pieces; need about 6 more. If
you’ve just sent one, perhaps send another. Janet & Nancy are working on
the mounting. A discussion followed about what to use & how to go about
mounting. Donna wrote a poem which will be framed and hung separately alongside
the trading cards piece. Any extra cards can be returned by request to the
artist. Otherwise could be matted & given to hospital doctors/nurses
perhaps along with a note. Janet will call hospital to set up a date.
Plein Air: Janet invites members to join her Friday at 2:00 by the
little lake at Elm Grove park. Members made suggestions for future places: Elm
Grove park pavilion, Fowler park in Oconomowoc, Botanical gardens in Hales
Corners, Waukesha Frame Park gardens & river area. Margaret will email more
info about plein air dates.
Nominating Committee is needed. Openings for next year: President,
Vice-President, Website?, Exhibits. This will be discussed at the Sept 3rd
Board meeting.
Critique: Janet & Carol welcomed and introduced artist Julie Pekarske. Julie mentioned an interesting you-tube: portrait artist of the year 2020. 10 member pieces were critiqued. Julie shared 3 of her own pieces, and artistic advice.
