Janet Knapp, President, started the business meeting at 6:30. 19 WCAL members were in attendance plus Paul Dominguez, colored pencil artist, who demonstrated at this meeting.
Membership & Programs: Carol is planning final meeting program. She and Janet are thinking of a trading card exchange. They also welcome suggestions; please email them. Kathy relayed how the “Alcohol Ink Society” has been doing their trading card share. Other suggestions were made on how this could be done in an easy way. Janet suggested a talking game like an artistic or trivia type game. Janet and Carol will discuss and let membership know what the final meeting program will be.
Treasurer: John reported the activity and balances of accounts. September had only one expenditure for a critique.
Secretary: Jean reports that the September meeting minutes done and sent to Lennis to post on website. Moving forward, Jean will send to Margaret to email to membership as well. A good way to reminder to membership about our meetings and perhaps inspire attendance.
Member’s Show, Exhibits: Renee reports seven entries so far for the Member’s Show. October 31 is deadline. Need more entries. Lennis can fix the size of your photos if needed. Please send your pics to her with that request. The entry fee should be sent to Renee. Exhibits: Meena & Renee are exhibiting now until mid-Nov at Brookfield library. Charlene and John will do mid-Nov thru Dec. If another would like that time; John will bow-out. Janet will take January.
Courthouse changes: Janet is in contact with Hilda. Courthouse corridors may not be open until end of next year. They have received many requests from school groups as well. They will continue to have art shows on their website. Janet waiting to hear back from Hilda about this venue. Margaret voiced concern about the paintings during the courthouse remodeling. Where are they now and where will they be reinstalled after remodel. Some of those paintings are 40-50 yrs old and belong to the County from the purchase prize money.
Courthouse Show:21 artworks were entered. She read the statement and thank you from the judge. Menna announced the winners along with the judges’ comments. Honorable Mentions: “Spring’s Joy” John Klug, “Learn to be Still” Jan Wood, “Her Kindness and Compassion” Melissa Hilmer. 3rd Place “Northern Lights” Meenakshi Vijay; 2nd Place “Foggy Sunrise” Theresa sgarlatta Lutz, Best of Show “Mill at Indian Creek” Renee Couture. A movie of the artworks was shown during the meeting. It will also be on the WCAL Facebook page, website and the County website; potentially other places like Brookfield Library. Meena thanks Margaret for her mentoring in getting the Courthouse Show completed.
WRAP Show: Jan announces three more Conference Awards. Sue Cadkin “The Tumbling Down”, Margaret Schumann “Ghosts of Our Past” and John Hallet for his sculpture. This makes a total seven winners from the Waukesha/Ocon show. Visit AWA Conference Exhibit http://www.go.wisc.edu/WRAP (then click on CONFERENCE tab) and Ag Hall Exhibit (Dean’s List) https://cals.wisc.edu/wrap. Jan Wood is planning to make next year her last as WRAP Chairperson. She asks for someone to volunteer & work alongside her in 2021 to learn and then take it over in 2022. AWA is going to take over the WRAP, it will no longer be sponsored by the UWM Continuing Studies. Terrence Doeler acrylic collage “Birches on Birch Bark” had received the WCAL Art Award at WRAP. Janet read the thank you note Terrence sent to the members of the Waukesha Creative Arts League.
Publicity/Facebook: Nancy posted the movie of Courthouse Show winners to FB. She will also be posting the names. Nancy had submitted an article about the WRAP winners to the Waukesha Freeman.
Website: Lennis not present. No report.
Hospital gift project: A picture of the project was shared. It will also be posted on FB. Janet would like to take a good picture of the project and send to members. They could then share it; to people they know and to essential workers. Margaret suggests Arts Camera for a good photo; no-one objected to this expense. Janet is making arrangements to present the piece to the hospital. John mentions that perhaps a photo of that presentation could be sent to the Freeman.
Constitution/Bylaws: John reported that five Board members met via zoom. Some changes were voted on years ago but never incorporated into the document. This committee made some changes. It will be finalized and emailed to membership before the Nov meeting. It will be voted on then. Janet mentions that the Constitution/Bylaws need to be reviewed every five years.
Nominations: Our biggest need is a Vice-President. Please volunteer. We also need a President and a Website Chairperson. Carol would like to make an exception for this year and to nominate Janet to continue another year as President. It goes against the Constitution, but just for this year because of the circumstances. (COVID19 pandemic). Janet would prefer someone else to volunteer, but if there is no-one else, she would continue. We will be voting at the November meeting.
October Challenge: Seven members shared their quick piece and their detailed piece. They shared their thoughts and what was their favorite.
November Challenge: Similar to the hospital project. Pick a theme. Use artist cards and mount. Or use a canvas and divide (like a quilt).
Demonstration artist: Carol introduced Paul Dominguez, colored pencil artist. He shared his art. We had an interactive drawing demonstration with Paul.
