WCAL meeting: program pics & minutes March 2022

At this first meeting on March 16 members were able to share what they had been doing in their artists’ studios this winter. Some of us showed our Masterpiece copies for this month’s challenge. There was also a show and tell of pieces artists have been working on over the winter. Here are some pics.

WCAL Minutes March 16, 2022

The March 16, 2022 meeting was held in-person at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Waukesha. Sue Cadkin, WCAL Vice-President presided over the meeting since Karon Bloo Marine, President was absent. She made a welcome to all & called meeting to order at 6:30 pm. 18 WCAL members were in attendance. No new members or guests at this meeting. Masks were worn due to COVID-19 (exception for officers when give reports and when leaders of challenge and program speak). Many members in attendance mentioned the smaller meeting room is preferable since it is easier to hear.  Masks will be required again for the April meeting. A vote regarding future mask wearing will be done at then. Sue introduced the Board: Secretary Jean Weed, Treasurer John Klug, Publicity & Facebook Nancy Peterson, Programs Carol Meissner, Member Show Charlene Southworth and Marie Gunther.
Secretary: Jean reports that the February Board meeting minutes are complete and posted to website. Jean mentioned that she helped at a youth/students of school district art event at the Sussex library. She spoke to the reference librarian about WCAL & will bring some of the WCAL brochures to the Sussex library; there is a brochure area.
Treasurer: John passed around the membership report; asked to write in any changes. He collected membership checks brought to meeting.  Recapped 2021: Beginning bal 3130.37, Took in 3175.00, Outgoing 2342.99, Ending bal 3962.38. Breakdown 75.43 Reserve, 1614.93 WRAP Show, 275.76 Courthouse, 261.56 Member Show, 1734.70 General Fund. No activity January or February. John emailed report to Board. Has some membership dues checks but has not yet deposited them. Membership dues for 2022 due March 31, 2022; $25 before that date, $30 after.
Programs: Carol: Tonight we can enjoy the Masters challenge pieces brought in as well as the pieces members have worked on over the winter. April program: Artist Tom Mulhaney from Brookfield will do a demonstration. Some know Tom and have taken classes with him. May program: Artist Barb Hayden will do a critique and also discuss how she does a critique. Barb currently has her art on display at the Waukesha Civic Theater. Carol is working on the rest of the year programs.

WRAP Show: Jenna reports WRAP entries (3 pieces each artist) are due March 26, 2022. She collected those brought to meeting. Can enter online wiscartists.wildapricot.org. Currently have 14 entries. Contact Jenna to help at the drop-off Saturday April 16 (10-11 am) at the Oconomowoc Art Center. The Workshop is May 21 9am-3pm.
Courthouse Show: Meena absent; no report.
Exhibits: Sue Cadkin brought in the signup book. Please stop in the Brookfield library to see the beautiful pieces on show currently by member artists Renee Couture, John Klug, Nancy Peterson and Donna Weinfurt. Sue has contacted the Sussex library regarding exhibits and brought in the necessary paperwork. At Sussex library a group can have one show per year; same for an individual artist. All pieces need to be approved by submission. There is also a display case. Brookfield library: no WCAL shows in April or May since they are having student show. Marie Gunther will show in June. Need artist(s) for July. Brookfield does have a display case by request. Ocon Art Center does not have space. Sue contacted Tudor Oaks but no reply. Courthouse gallery: contact them for submission. Delafield- Sue did not contact them. John Klug has in past displayed there. Artists should contact the Delafield library if interested. Waukesha City Hall: WCAL had done some shows there in past but stopped when remodel started. Waukesha Civic Theater: had done a Member Show there. Send contact info of potential venues to Sue.

Member’s Show: Charlene reports nothing new at the moment. Place (OAC) and dates are the same & set.
Facebook/Publicity: Nancy mentioned that the artwork and brochure had originally been done by Emma McCarty. Nancy updated some wording, photos, formatting and has gotten some brochures printed. Will get more printed if needed. She welcomed attendees to take some brochures she brought and to please distribute to appropriate places or people. The more we get out the better for us and for the community. Sue took some to Brookfield library. Jean will take some to the Sussex library. Regarding Facebook: Nancy encourages members to post their artwork and get some feedback. It is good see new posts by different people. If you are having trouble finding the group; search Waukesha Creative Arts League. Nancy is the administrator and does the approving of joining and posts. There are rules about joining & posting at the top of the WCAL Facebook page; please read. Please encourage artists you know to join. It is a public site as originally setup by a previous member.
Challenges:  Janet Knapp: The April challenge is to do a piece which emphasizes shadows. May challenge to be announced at next meeting. John Klug: the June challenge is to do piece (or two) from the photo(s) that were brought to this meeting and voted on by attendees. He will get digital challenge photos sent out to membership.
Business meeting Adjourned. Followed Master challenge & over the winter pieces program. Ended approx 8:30pm.
