“A drawing is simply a line going for a walk” – Paul Klee
Hello fellow artists! I hope everyone is having a good summer and had a great Fourth of July. It was a quiet but good day for me.
It was great to see so many people at the last meeting. I thought our group might be smaller during the summer months, but it looks as if we are still having good attendance. It is great to see the visitors and new members. We hope you feel welcome at the meetings. The courthouse show is soon approaching, so I hope people are thinking about what they will enter.
Our challenge for the July meeting was to create a work of art with a July 4th theme or a summer theme. I just ordered some supplies to try a fireworks painting. We will see what happens.
Our challenge for the August meeting will be to do a detailed drawing. I encourage you to push yourself with the amount of detail you put in it. Drawing is such an important foundation to art and it is easy to neglect it. It can also be very relaxing. Lori McNee talks about the importance of drawing in her online article titled “10 reasons why artists should draw more”
The first three are to learn to see, to inspire the design, and to record the geometric shapes and patterns of the composition. Personally, I feel as if a drawing can be beautiful in itself , along with being a good foundation for a painting, and the only way to get better at it is to practice. I hope to see some awesome drawings in August.
See you soon,
