The October 16th meeting was opened by President Janet Knapp at 6:30 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Street, Waukesha with one visitor, Jackie who works in acrylics.
Minutes of all meetings are/or will be on the website with printed copies available at meetings.
Treasurer Shannon Finger reported the balance is $4551+ at the end of September. Shannon also read a thank you note from Terrance Dolar who received the WCAL award on State Day. He said he would donate it back to WRAA.
Membership: Suggestions are being sought as to how to celebrate WCAL’s 50th anniversary next year with a suggestion box out at each meeting.
Courthouse Show: Co-chairman Margaret Schumann and Jean Pasek reported that Sue Cadkin won the Purchase Award of $350, Shannon Finger won 2nd Place and $150, Barb Kelsey won 3rd Place and $125 and Nancy Peterson, Renee Couture, Susan Schwegel, Linda Steinlein, Jen Herro, and Margaret Schumann won Honorable Mentions and were awarded $100 each. Pickup for paintings in the show is on October 29 between 4 and 6 p.m.
WRAP Show: Chairman Jan Wood reminded members that next year’s show will be in Wausau.
Member Show: Chairman Renee Couture had forms available for the show at the Waukesha Civic Theater running in January with a $10 entry fee to show one painting and some restrictions on size. Each entry should have an accompanying one page artist’s statement.
Programs: The topic of Encaustic art was the evening’s program with Bob Fesser presenting. In November we will have our annual Christmas activities get together. Members are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert to share and a 2-1/2”x3-1/2 original trading card to exchange (if interested in doing so). This will be the final meeting for 2019 with meetings resuming in March.
Exhibitions: Janet Knapp noted that there appears to be an opening at the Courthouse for November but will check on that to determine if, perhaps, the Courthouse is going to use that month.
Publicity/Facebook: Chairman Nancy Peterson had no report.
Election of officers was held with results: President-Janet Knapp, VP/Membership-Carol Meissner, Secretary-Jean Weed, Treasurer-John Klug, WRAP-Jan Wood, Member Show-Renee Couture, Facebook/Publicity-Nancy Peterson. Lennis Mathews volunteered to fill Website/Communications. This leaves the Courthouse Show, Programs, and Exhibitions positions still to be filled so the president passed around sheets looking for volunteers to help out in those areas.
October Challenge: Several members brought in works that they had changed (or totally redone) after a critique.
November Challenge: Janet’s challenge is to “do an oversize one”.
The meeting was adjourned and the program followed.
