Letter from the President

“Inspiration does exist but it must find you working” – Pablo Picasso

Hello WCAL artists,

I hope you are enjoying your snowy November. I thought about having our next challenge be to paint or create a snow covered Autumn scene, but decided to pass on that idea. The landscape was sure different for a few days.

During our November meeting we will be having our end of the year celebration, which should give us a chance to visit and get to know each other better. Please bring a treat and/or a 2.5 by 3.5 inch trading card, if you feel so inclined. Thank you Bill Taylor for the interesting assortment of artists for us to learn from this year.

We hope to see as many of you as possible participating in the Members Show. If you have never participated in this event, it is a time for us to gather outside of our normal location, enjoy treats and share our work with the public.

We are still hoping to fill several positions for the next year.We need someone to chair Exhibits and the Courthouse Purchase Award Show . We also need volunteers to help with Programs.

Our challenge for the month of November was to make an “oversized” piece of artwork, oversized meaning something larger than your usual size.

Our December challenge will be a repeat of one that we have had before. It will give us something to keep us occupied over our long winter break. The challenge will be to copy a piece of art from one of the “Old Masters” for the purpose of learning from them. Last year we had such an amazing response to this challenge. I hope to see that repeated.

Just a reminder- our November meeting will be the last one of the year. We will resume our meetings again in March.

Stay warm!
Janet Knapp
