“One must spoil as many canvases as one succeeds with.”- Vincent Van Gogh
Hello Waukesha area Artists,
Our long winter break is almost over and we shall be reunited soon. Our first meeting of the year will be on March 18th. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and some restful time indoors. This is the time of year it is easy to get restless and anxious for the warmer weather. I know that is often the case with me.
Like Van Gogh, I feel as if I have started and not finished a lot of paintings lately, but hopefully one will end up in a frame soon.i have been working on my copy of a “master’s” painting and it has been quite a challenge. It is an impressionistic painting and has a lot of small marks on it. It definitely will not be an exact representation, but I feel as if I have been learning a lot.
Our Members Show at the Waukesha Civics Theatre was a success and we had a great representation of our works. It was great to see many of you at the reception. Thank you Renee for setting this up.
It is time to start considering what you will submit in the Oconomowoc WRAP Show. The deadline is at the end of March so don’t miss it. I am always so impressed with the quality of
the work submitted from our group. Thank you Jan for all your work in organizing this.
As a reminder, the challenge for the month of March was to make a copy of a “masters” painting.if you have been working on one, please bring it to the March meeting, even if it is unfinished.
Our challenge for the April meeting will be to make a painting or other piece of art using an old family photo as a resource. I noticed that there are a lot of artists online that make family photos into paintings. “Polly Podolsky fine portraits in oil”, is one website that I thought has quality work and also shows some of the steps taken in the process. I am sure we all have old photos that would be an excellent art resource. I know I have seen some of these drawings and paintings at our critiques.
I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting. For the month of March, we will be using the smaller room at the end of the Hall. Also, we will be having a critique, so if you are a member please bring along one of your treasures.
