President’s Newsletter and More, May 2022

From our President, Karon ‘Bloo’ Marine:
Jenna reports that our wrap show is a huge success so far !   Judge Michael Julian has selected the lucky winners !  Workshop day is Sat May 21st 9 – 3. You will be able to take home your work at that time.    Hope to see you there !   Remember you can come for the workshop even if you have not entered.  There is a $5.00 fee.

The challenge picture for May is to do a border around your painting, we will surely see some cool ideas  from some of you ! I also want to bring in the challenge photos for June, just in case you don’t have them.
Big news…We are handing out prizes, cash and ribbons , for the challenge this month !  We will see how that goes and if we will do it again in the future  ).
Are you exhibiting anywhere ? Let me know so we can spread the word.   John is at the Rivers End Gallery in Waukesha , Janet Knapp is just down the street at The Springs! I am at the En Pointe Gallery on Jackson Str., Third Ward starting May 28th .
Happy Creativity to us all !
From Carol Meissner, our Program Chair
Barbara Hayden will be our presenter for May 18th.  She will be doing a critique of your works and also explaining how she does a critique.  I hope that you will find her interesting and engaging.
Barbara  is a contemporary painter who loves to explore design, mood and color in her expressionist work.  She paints both in oils and watercolor.

Raised in the midwest she was surrounded by farms, nature, and family.  Many of her paintings are inspired by those influences. During warmer months you can find her outside painting “en plein air”.  She loves to travel to other states to paint in plein air events and contests

She has placed and won numerous awards.  Highlights include First Place at “Bluff Strokes,” Dubuque, IA – First Place Milwaukee Third Ward – and First Place at the West Bend Mutual Insurance event.  Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the country.

Don’t forget  your challenge for June.   Choose one of the two pictures chosen (yellow daisy or the winter scene).  It will be great to see how each one interprets the photos. Since many (I hope all) of you have been working hard on your photo interpretations since John introduced the idea in March, the program for June is Sharing Our Interpretations of the Same Photo.  Seeing and hearing what went into these works will be fun and interesting.  So keep painting!  We are all the program for June!
Brookfield Public Library Our exhibitor for June is Marie Gunther.   This exhibit runs from June 1 through June 30th, please stop by to view the show and spread the word to family and friends. I am looking for a few artists that would be interested in exhibiting at the library in July. The theme is “ The Essence of Summer”.   I know our WCAL members have tons of creative ideas for a summer theme. As a reminder, all art work displayed must be framed with a wire hanger.  The library requeststhat each exhibiting artist sign the Brookfield Library Waiver .  You can obtain a copy at the circulation desk. Don’t forget to sign up for July, looking forward to hearing from you.

Plan for our winter show at OAC.   In addition to your other entries, plan a 5×7 framed, no mat necessary, drawing with some color enhancement, of your impression of what the voice in your GPS (Siri or Alexa) working 24/7 looks like.  A fun category for us.
